3:44 + C
D,E : Possessive antecedent , nonpossessive pronoun
B:Redundance due to Because + reason
Between A & C
Went for C because it is more directly phrased
A:that it has become... is modifying reason .It seems as if China's transformation into a world leading producer is the reason . Sounds absurd . Could people confirm.

A. The reason that China has become largest manufacturer of consumer goods in the world is that it has the ability to provide huge work forces at low costs and, therefore, offer prices that cannot be competed with

main clause and subclause are illogical; "that" wordy
the sentence could have started as -- The reason due to which China....
the world is that it has the ability to here "it" refers to the world

B. The reason that China has become the largest manufacturer of consumer goods in the world is because of its ability to provide huge work forces at low costs and, therefore, offer prices that cannot be competed with

In addition to some reasons in explained for A; its ability to provide... "its" refers to World NOT China. Once the subject is lost the conjunction part "and, therefore, offer prices that cannot be competed with" beacomes illogical. We cannot discern who/what does what.

C. China has become the largest manufacturer of consumer goods in the world because it has the ability to provide huge work forces at low costs and, therefore, offer prices that cannot be competed with

Correct -- Subject properly followed by verb and prepositional phrase; The conjunction starting at "because" correctly defines the subject and adheres to correct grammatical construction.

D. Because of China's ability to provide huge work forces at low costs and, therefore, offer prices that cannot be competed with, it has become the largest manufacturer of consumer goods

modifier too wordy and incorrect parallelism (to provide ... to offer)

E. Because of China's ability to provide huge work forces at low costs and, therefore, offer prices that cannot be competed with, it has become largest manufacturer of consumer goods in the world

the same reasons as for option D

IMO C time: 70 secs

Op D and E are wrong as pronoun IT can not refer to possessive CHINA's

Now, i want to discuss something...i drop choice A because Op C looks concise and better...but i think we can discuss....the parallelism indicated by Linking verbs TO BE in OP A

The Manhattan SC guide says, instead of expressing what a subject does, these verbs express what the subject is, or what condition the subject is in.

Manhattan Sc guide examples:-

The bouquet of flowers WAS a giving of love. ----> WRONG

The bouquet of flowers WAS a gift of love. --------> CORRECT

In Op A,

The reason that....is that it has the ability...is this correct???

See i'm actually struggling in this topic of parallelism chapter..if anyone has a clarity in this topic and can explain its application in Op A, please share.

Thanks in Advance

Good Discussion. All I can say at this point is try to find more reason to eliminate other options, We still left couple of reasons to cross off wrong answers.
