2 Similar Angle Triangles

1) Two triangles with similar corresponding angles ( not length ) are compared. The area of bigger triangle is twice the area of smaller triangle. If the base of smaller triangle is S and the base of the bigger triangle is T? What is T in terms of S?

Answer - SqRoot of 2 * S.

Can someone explain this ?

Assuming:

Smaller triangle height = H1

larger triangle height = H2

then H1/H2 = S/T (by similar triangle) ------> eq1

H2 = TH1/S

Area small Triangle / Area of large Triange = 1/2

0.5 SH1/0.5 TH2 = SH1/TH2 = 1/2

substituting for H2 from eq1:

S^2/T^2 = 1/2

or T = S * SQRT(2)
