I apologize ahead of time if this is an amateur question, but do people ever apply to JD/MBA programs and get accepted in to only one of the schools? For example, let's say I apply to Penn's dual degree program. Is it possible (and what is the likelihood if so) to get accepted into Wharton, but not Penn Law?

Or do admission committees recognize that you're likelihood of accepting an offer from just one school is low (since you were after all seeking a dual degree program in the first place), and therefore, they are reluctant to extend an offer from just one program because its likelihood of being rejected is higher and this hurts the programs yield statistic?

Hi,

Thanks for your post. You ask a great question! Yes, it certainly can happen that someone is admitted to one program, but not the other. In this situation it is often typical for the applicant to enroll into the program which they were admitted and then reapply to the joint program during their first year.

Adcoms at bschools aren't really qualified to determine the likeliness of admission of the candidate to a JD program and vice versa. Each adcom evaluates the application on it's own merit and qualifications for their own program completely independent of the other.

I hope this helps! Best of luck!
