ISB in round 1

by amittikoo84 » Mon Jul 27, 2009 8:27 pm
Hi All

I am targeting admissions for year 2010.Based on my profile I have shortlisted the following colleges:

1. Darden.
2. Cornell
3. Oxford
4. ISB

Is this shortlisting reasonable for my profile (my resume is attached- GMAT:730)?

Also my dilema is whether I should apply to ISB in round 1 or round 2. Suppose, i get an admit to ISB in round 1,
i'll have to pay up the token amount(2.5 lakhs) well before I get results from other colleges.

A related query I've is Darden / Cornell / Oxford vs ISB. What are the pro's and cons in terms of career advancement and ROI.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks
Amit

Hi Amit,

You can target all these schools as per your profile.

Yes if ISB is not your first choice then you are risking the amount by applying in R1 but chances of getting through in R1 are also better than R2. So, keep that in mind.

As far as Darden / Cornell / Oxford vs ISB is concerned obviously ISB and Oxford are 1 yr so opportunity cost is lest. Fees for ISB is < 20 lacs , Oxford will be atleast 33 lacs and Darden & Cornell will be in excess of 45 lacs easily.

If you want to stay in India, ISB will be the best option. If you want to stay in US for a longer term apply to US B schools. It depends on your career goals and aspirations.

If you are taking a loan for US schools you wont be able to come back to India for atleast 2 yrs post MBA.

Feel free to write to us for any queries.

Hi,

You should target atleast a 650 if you have 8 years of experience. If you are from IT domain then try to get atleast a 680 or so.

Yes the acceptance rate at ISB is less in R2 because more people apply in R2. This is because ISB deadlines are pretty early in the calender year and not many peopletake GMAT by mid aug to apply safely by end aug. Hence more applications pour in in R2.
