Is x<y?

GmatPrep 1 Question:

Is x<y?

1) 2x<3y
2) xy>0

Can someone tell me how you solve this?

(1) If x = 1 and y = 2 (since 2 < 6). From here we can see that 1 < 2 is true.
If x = 1.25 and y = 1 (since 2.5 < 3). From here we can see that 1.25 < 1 is not true.
No unique answer.
So, (1) is NOT SUFFICIENT.

(2) xy > 0 means that either x and y are both positive or x and y are both negative. But we don't know the values.
So, (2) is NOT SUFFICIENT.

Combining (1) and (2), in statement (1) we took the values of x and y as both positive, but still we can't answer whether x > y.

The correct answer is [spoiler](E)[/spoiler].
