Friends,

I took the GMAT today and scored 670, I was hoping to score 700+ but nevertheless.

My questions - is their a limit that a person can improve. Let me describe, I started GMAT prep 6-7 months ago. In my first test I scored 570 (Q-24 and V-35). I have been studying regulalrly 2-3 hours every day, have done OG 12 SC 3 times. I have done OG quant multiple times. I have done MGMAT SC guide. Usually CR and RC is not that big a problem.

In 2-3 months after I started preparation I was able to reach 680 in MGMAT, but suddenly all hell broke loose and I started getting less than 650. Then I joined Knewton attended all their classes and did all its recommended material. All this time my verbal score was between 31-38 range and most of the time close to 35.

Today I took the GMAT, I got 47 Q and 35 V. I cannot believe that after 7 months of rigrous studies I couldn't improve at all in verbal. I mean come on.

Do you guys think that is worth taking the test again, or have I reached my limit. For a long time my quant score was 44 (7-8 tests). I managed to bring it to 47-48. I am not sure if I can go beyond that.

Please be honest. I don't want to spend another 2 months if there is no hope.

Any suggestion or ideas will be greatly appreciated. I will be more than happy to share anything about the test, if anyone has a question.

Are you a native English speaker? If not, the best thing for you may be to just immerse yourself as much as you can in the language. Also, attempt to learn as many new vocab words as possible. That is hwo you can improve your verbal. With your quant, if you get a 40 on the verbal you get the 700.

"My questions - is their a limit that a person can improve." well the limit would be an 800 right? I think there is room for improvement there to get that 700+ score. Is there any way you can focus hard for a month on the verbal section (of course studying quant) but moreso on the verbal? Have you identified your areas of weakness within Verbal? Who knows even improving your Verbal score just a bit, may enable you to get to the 700 level if you can somehow pull out a slight increase in Quant.

I don't think you should give up though. (unless taking you've taken it 4/5 times already) which I doubt is the case. I know for me.. I would not be able to study for 6-7 months 2/3 hrs a day. By the end I would forget the things I took in at the beginning.

You said "I have done MGMAT SC guide. Usually CR and RC is not that big a problem." So if CR & RC are not the problems, is it SC? If so that's just memorization. You went through the OG 3 times and OG Quant multiple times... maybe you just need a break from those guides. I would imagine that you've exhausted these by now?
