Is my GMAT score decent? 690 Q48 V36

by rishi.madhav » Tue Nov 24, 2009 12:29 am
Hey guys,
I just took my GMAT - 690, Q48 and V36 - 88 percentile overall.
Had initially booked for Oct 12th, and started preparing from August onwards. But a job and location change took it's toll on it, and I had to stall the prep for almost a month (Most of October and November).
Seriously got back on the train from November 1st week on.

I have around 6 years of work-ex in the Information Technology field - work profile includes product development, computer-aided design and analysis and Enterprise Solutions in the automotive/manufacturing fields.

Planning to apply to ISB, NUS, NTU, Hitotsubashi ICS, XLRI (India).
I suppose, this score is not that great to think about INSEAD, and such.

Do let me know your views if the score with a work profile such as mine is good to go along with.

Hoping to get some responses soon...

Thanks a lot!
Cheers!
Rishi

Congratulation!!
As per numbers of years of experience, yours GMAT score is decent and appropriate for applying in good b-schools. But apart from GMAT score, school's admission committee also looks your type of experience and extra curriculum activities. For Indians, average GMAT score is 750. Furthermore, if you are from IT Company then getting admission in school will become more competitive.

For NUS, 690 score is decent. But at the time of decision, committee will review and evaluate your complete profile that contains your academics, relevant experience, leadership roles (included outside the organization), recommendations, and essays. If your profile has any unique thing like very high GMAT score, impressive business experience, or entrepreneurship initiation, then your chances of getting interview call will be higher.

ISB' admission committees always focus more on your GMAT score, academics, and experience.

Good luck.

Hitotsubashi ICS accepts only 60 students per year - 30 students each for 1 Year MBA program and 2 Year MBA Program.
Almost half of accepted students are native Japanese students and Japanese language proficiency is a must for getting any placement after MBA. Otherwise, you will only have options of being a Techie in IT firm or english teacher in Japan.
In case you are serious about Hitotsubashi, I would recommend you to reappear for GMAT exam and apply with 750 score.

I don't have any information regarding other B-schools
