While HEC is a great bang for the buck I can assure you that very few people know about it outside of Quebec. That was my first issue when applying in NYC and Toronto (HEC? what is that?). The ONLY school that is known WIDELY outside of Canada is McGill. In TO and NYC UofT and Ivey also have a good signal.

And again I am not talking about knowledge but rather about signal. Though HEC profs are underpaid there are quite a few profs who are very good. Any GMAT score that is higher than 600 is ok. I guess not much have changed in several years.

Someone commented that HEC is the '3rd world' of top global MBA programs and it is absolutely correct. I have done considerable research to find the most suitable MBA program for myself. I am very certain that HEC, Montreal stands no where close to Ivey, Rotman, Queens & Schulick. Not even by a mile.

For Vishal i just have one advice, either try to get into Ivey, Rotman, Queens & Schulick for the MBA or come to Canada as an immigrant and then look for a job as per your past experience & skills. As an international MBA graduate you will get a 2-3 years work permit if you graduate from any of these top schools. If you have had quality experience in the past then even with a 610 you can crack Rotman, Queens or Schulick. Do not waster your hard earned money on HEC at this point in your career*, you will only be dejected.

Hi. I would be applying for 2013- 1 year program. I heard HEC was well considered by employers.
I am not from Canada, but already have gotten the residence. My goal is not looking for a job after the MBA, but creating my own company or doing freelance jobs. Would you recommend it to me?

How would you describe your HEC MBA whole experience? How many students per class are there?

My last suggestion. If you really wish to avoid massive disappointment after your MBA, avoid HEC religiously and go for Ivey, Queens or Rotman. You are above 40 & HEC will not be able to help you find a worthwhile job while the other three will be able to provide way better opportunities.

Or otherwise aim for Univ of Alberta if your background is even closely related to Biotechnology & mining.
