It is well known in the supermarket industry that how
items are placed on shelves and the frequency of
inventory turnovers can be crucial to profits.
(A) the frequency of inventory turnovers can be
(8) the frequency of inventory turnovers is often
(C) the frequency with which the inventory turns
overis often
(D) how frequently is the inventory turned over are
often
(E) how frequently the inventory turns over can be

In my opinion answer should be D, but OA says E. Please help!!

in ans choice (D) - "how frequently and often" are redundant, hence incorrect.

1- redundancy - often + frequently
2- singular form for inventory turn over , are is worng
3- change in meaning

Hi,
D could be eliminated based on parallelism.

The second element, which is underlined, in this sentence should be parallel to first element i.e. "how items are placed on shelves (how + noun + etc)".

In D, the structure is how+ frequently + is (verb) + the inventory (noun)

In E, the structure is how+ frequently + the inventory (noun) + etc

Clearly, E is the correct answer choice.

The change in meaning gives us a 2:3 split. It is jus a possibility in the original sentence. They have not made any assertion. is/are often is wrong. So, B C D are out !

Between A and E, parallelism leads us to E !

The general structure is how + sub + verb. E has it !
