Is 590 on MGMAT test good indicator of the real test score?

I gave my first MGMAT test yesterday and scored 590, I'm personally very disaappointed with this score. When I reviewed my results, I found I had done many silly mistakes in quantitative section. The problems which I would easily solve during my study, I made mistakes solving them in the test. Other area which was a disaster was reading comprehension, the test threw 3 big RC passages, which ate lot of time in answering. CR and SC were relatively easy.
What do you all whizards think? Is 590 on this test a close indicator of my actual score, or do you think there is still lot of scope for improving it considering this was my first practice test?. I'm aiming at 700+ , do you think I can achieve it?. I plan to give 4-5 more tests before I appear for my actual test. Your honest and prompt suggestions will be much appreciated

hello andy let me say I had the same experience as you, 590 on the manhattan only I did a decent job on the harder quantative section (42) but I did make some careless errors. My verbal was either a 25 or 26 I figured that would translate to a mid to upper 600 on the real test but that did not happen.

I scheduled my test too quickly and did not have ample time to really fully prepare myself. I took the manhattan as my second last test, seeing as you plan on taking 4-5 more you should be fine.

My advice would be to really understand each and every question you got wrong record it and learn from it. This is something that I did not do and I think that is what set me back and now I have to start over from square one again.

Hope this helps

HI Andy,

Dont get perturbed by the score. MGMAT tests are tad difficult from the real ones . You can add a 30+35 points on your score . But this being your 1st CAT exam , you certainly can do a lot more.

I am sailing in the same boat. So far i have taken 3 CAT's and my score are all dismal from what i would have desired and i have covered all the topics .

My scores were ..

MGMAT 1st - 580

MGMAT 2nd - 570

MGMAT 3rd - 540 ...this threw me off comepletely... but i am not going to give up . I am in the process of making a note of my mistakes and trying to learn and grasp them to the best of my capabilities. This is a long and painful process but it pays in the end . I am myself targetting a 700+ score and we can share the prep process if you feel like doing so .

cheers
Rishi

thanks for the advice Rishi and Nap, I will concentrate on the wrong answers to rectify why I went wrong.
However as I reviewed, all the ones which I answered wrongly, seemed easy to me, and one's which I had already solved during workout. My biggest worry is commiting silly mistakes and not reading question carefully. I did not not read the questions properly on some of the questions that I marked wrong.
I'm pretty confident however , that I can improve on it, and will definitely cross the target. I wish you both the same too.

i'm in the same boat as you guys on this. GOAL 700+

1st MGMAT CAT 590 taken 2/1/08
2nd MGMAT CAT 530 taken 2/21/08

i've been researching on this forum and one of the moderators of this forum has a blog of his progress (similar to ours) and it has helped him a lot. I've adopted his methods and i've already noticed my mistakes and where I need to improve.

check this blog!

That is a good blog from myonnnise and sounds similar situation as we are facing, I think more or less many of GMAT aspirants go through the same situation when they begin their studies, and start giving one or more tests. And offcourse some may share their ongoing progress(bad tests , weaknesses etc) , others may not like to do it(may feel a bit embarrased to do so in a public forum :)) ).
Not all may get a great score just in one or couple of tests , so I'm given to feel that it wont matter if the test scores are a skew by 50-60 than the expected and that a rigourous and focused approach to the weak areas will surely result in succcess.

Scored 600 in the first test from MBA.com

by bhavikrao » Sun Mar 01, 2009 4:15 pm
Guys,

I am in a similar boat. I scored 540 and 520 in my first two manhattan tests

then i took the first practice test from MBA.com, scored 600 today.

Was disappointed at math - 21 wrong out of 37 (got last 9 wrong) - less time

Verbal - did reasonable well 13 wrong out of 41.

I am planning to improve a lot on my math and hopefully get above 700. Planning to take the test in little over a month

600 on gmatprep is not bad , u can improve to 50-70 over that, it can come close to your score in the real test. all the best dude
