Integrated Reasoning BETA Question

by BlurPic » Tue Feb 28, 2012 2:17 pm
I read on GMAC's website that they will be testing Integrated Reasoning questions for the June 2012 rollout starting soon.

I plan on taking the GMAT in late May in order to not be surprised by the new changes, specifically the Integrated Reasoning questions.

Would someone please explain how GMAC plans on testing the new IR questions on test takers before June? I just don't see how they can. The IR questions are about sets of numbers and I am assuming they take more time than a regular Quant question. I may be wrong since I have been purposely avoiding the IR questions in order not to be confused.

If I get one of the IR Beta questions, do they count toward any of my scores?

Please, would someone shed a light on the beta testing and whether test takers will have to deal with a longer or more confusing exam months prior to the new changes?

Great question.

I believe that the experimental testing has already occurred: See

However, even if the GMAC is planning additional testing, they won't slip any experimental IR questions into your test.

You MAY be asked to stay an additional 30 minutes (once you complete the real test) to complete an experimental IR section. You're under no obligation to complete this section, but I understand that, if you do complete the section, you will receive a $25 refund (according to the post in the link above).

Also note that if you do complete an experimental IR section, the results will not count towards your official GMAT scores or be sent to any business schools.

So, the bottom line is that, if you're writing the test in May, don't worry about Integrated Reasoning.

Cheers,
Brent

Dear Brent,

I don't know how anyone would be able to make a proper attempt at an experimental section after 4 hours of grueling test taking.

Thank you for putting my mind at ease.

Agreed.
Also, since the results don't matter, any data collected now will be somewhat unreliable.

Cheers,
Brent
