The 20 of September 1990 was Thursday. What day was the 19th of September 1987,(note that 1988 was a leap-year).

Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
saturday

pl explain your logic/way to proceed...thanks.

(365*3) +1 = 1096

If today is thursday, when i go 7 days behind today it would be a wednesday.

now 1092 is the nearest multiple of 7.

so 1092 days behind 20th sept 1990 would be wednesday and 1096 days behind would be SATURDAY

The question has some problem with the option.
The answer is indeed Saturday.

Though the solution provided by arora007 is correct and elegant, I want to add some thumb rules for these types of problems which some of you may find useful.

A 30 day month = 30 days = (7*4 + 2) days --> 2 extra days
A 31 day month = 31 days = (7*4 + 3) days --> 3 extra days
A normal year = 365 days = (7*52 + 1) days --> 1 extra day
A leap year = 366 days = (7*52 + 2) days --> 2 extra days

In this case, the difference is equal to 2 normal years, 1 leap year and 1 day. Which is equivalent to (2*1 + 1*2 + 1) = 5 extra days. Hence we have to go 5 days back from a Thursday, which is indeed Saturday.
