Improved technology and equipment often result in fewer injuries during high-risk activities such as rock climbing and scuba diving. But participant education also plays a large role in reducing the number of injuries sustained during these activities. People who are poorly trained in these activities run a much higher risk of injury even if provided with the latest and best equipment.

Which of the following can be properly inferred from the information above?

A)Training is a more important safety factor than equipment in high-risk activities.

B)People who are properly trained in their activities do not sustain injuries.

C)The safety benefits of the latest equipment can be offset by inadequate preparation.

D)Rock climbing and scuba diving are more risky than any other activities.

E)People with the latest equipment often neglect proper training.

IMO C. The benefits of latest equipment is nullified by inadequate prepartion is the inference (the correct answer choice remains within the perimeter of the passage content).

A is not right because the passage says "Improved technology and equipment often result in fewer injuries during high-risk activities such as rock climbing and scuba diving". But participant education also plays a large role in reducing the number of injuries sustained during these activities."

Both factors are equally weighed & so one is not more important than the other. Statement A negates what's mentioned in the passage.

We should be able to conclude 'A' because last sentence of the argument says -

People who are poorly trained in these activities run a much higher risk of injury even if provided with the latest and best equipment

That's exactly what C is saying. The benefits of latest equipment is offset by poor training.

Can we have the OA please?

OA

here is the OA C

The text states that participant education, like improved equipment, plays a large role in reducing the number of injuries sustained during high-risk activities. People who are poorly trained run a higher risk of injury even if provided with the latest and best equipment. A proper inference will be one that is supported solely by the facts stated in the argument, without relying on outside information or additional assumptions.

(A) While the argument discusses training and equipment, it does not compare their relative importance as safety factors.

(B) The argument states that “participant education also plays a large role in reducing the number of injuries sustained during these activities,” but stops short of stating that people who are properly trained in their activities do not sustain injuries.

(C) CORRECT . The argument states that “people who are poorly trained in these activities run a much higher risk of injury even if provided with the latest and best equipment.” Therefore, it is reasonable to infer that the safety benefits of the latest equipment can be offset by inadequate preparation.

(D) Rock climbing and scuba diving are simply cited as examples of high-risk activities. The argument does not provide any information about how they compare to any other activities.

(E) The argument states that “people who are poorly trained in these activities run a much higher risk of injury even if provided with the latest and best equipment,” but this does not mean that people with the latest equipment often neglect proper training.[/b][/i]
