Hello, I am from INDIA with TELECOMMUNICATION background currently working for top MNC company in GLOBAL team since OCT2010. My percentages are 10th-80, 12th-85 and UG(ECE)-71 and currently pursuing BUSINESS ACUMEN E-course from INSEAD. I am planning to do my MBA and i am targeting R3 for 2016 intake. It would be really helpful for me if you can guide me upon my chances of getting selected into one of these schools HBS, Stanford, Kellogg, MIT, FUQUA, INSEAD, YALE and Wharton. On a transparent note my dream is to get into HBS... Kindly provide me ur views for the above mentioned B-schools. Thanks in advance..
Hi,
Getting into Round 3 is definitely more challenging as most of the seats for the year are filled and also the admissions committee feels that your planning was not ideal for them.
The most important marks are your undergrad scores - the others matter but not as much (maybe 20%).
All of these schools are ultra competitive and your scores or work experience alone will be very hard to get in - your career aspirations, your level of preparedness and leadership skills demonstrated among other things will matter a lot.
I would rather start with the following approach (something I have used with my students for a long time) - where do you want to be in 5 years? 3 years?
What skills/experience/knowledge (technical, functional, soft skill and leadership) do you need to get there? Which of those do you already have? The others should be given to you by your MBA and your first 2 jobs after your MBA. Use this template and see for yourself if you can justify 2 years of investment (> $200,000), lost income and if you are convinced, then I would recommend that you start with a few colleges between (30-50 ranked) and focus on getting a stellar GMAT score.
