Q1. NASA researchers have trained their telescopes on XYZ, a pair of merging galaxies, and saw lights exploding in numbers far greater than expected.

The above bolded parts need to be parallel. Hence with "have trained" you need "have seen". Furthermore, the use of "being" in option D is unnecessary. Hence the ans is E.

Q2. While all countries face similar emissions problems, the economic policies and code of each country determine the requirements for those companies.

In Q 2, the "economic policies of each country" is a plural subject, hence we would use the verb "determine". This cancels B, C and D. Option E is wrong because it says :

"While each country faces a similar emissions problem, their economic policies ...." - the use of the word "their" to refer to "each country" is wrong.

Hence the best option is A.

IMO answer choices are E and A.

For the First Question, it is E because the rest of the choices are not parallel with the stem.

For the Second Question, it is A because only Choice A has correct Subject - Verb Agreement.

Question 1 tests your knowledge of Parallelism

NASA researchers have trained their telescopes on XYZ, a pair of merging galaxies, and have seen lights exploding in far greater numbers than expected. So the answer is E.

Question 2 tests Idioms and Subj - Verb agreement.

While all countries face similar emissions problems, the economic policies and code of each
country determine the requirements for those companies. So the answer is A.

First, Idiomatically , Similar can go with all ,and NEVER with "each" or "every"
In addition, the subject of the sentence is "Economic policies and Codes", which takes a verb determine instead of determines.

Hope that helps!
