Global Stats

A recent lunch meeting at a certain club was attended by members and guests. Each member paid $4 for the lunch and each guest paid $8 for the lunch. How many of the people attending the meeting were members

(1) A total of 20 people attended the meeting.

Members and guests can be 10 each
Members can be 5 in number and the guests can be 15 in number.
Insufficient.

(2) A total of $92 was paid for the lunch

1 member and 11 guests can be present.
Or, 3 members and 10 guests can be present.
Insufficient.

Combining (1) and (2)
We get two equations with two variables
Let members = M and guests = G

M + G = 20 ...(i)
4M + 8G = 92 ...(ii)

Thus, we get unique value of M and G
Sufficient
