although some might think that classics scholars possess an entirely impractical body of knowledge, references to classical Greek and Latin are found in a wide variety of cultural mediums, from poetry to theater to dance.

A.from poetry to theater to dance
B.from poetry to theater and dance

which one is correct....what is idomatic form: from X to Y & Z. or from X to Y to Z.

A.

In B , by including the word and, it sounds as if theater and dance are the same thing.

Here is another example:

My travels took me from Brazil to London to South Africa

My travels took me from Brazil to London AND South Africa

In A one can infer that the author travelled to 3 destinations

In B however, it sounds as if the author travelled to London and South Africa at the same time.

However, one caveat I would like to point out. I could be incorrect but hopefully an expert can clarify

If the statement said - 'My travels took me from Brazil to London AND finally TO South Africa, i believe this will be correct.

I don't know if we can assume that the structure of (B) is incorrect. While "theater" and "dance" certainly appear to be distinct art forms, the final two terms might be linked in a logical way, such as:

"The university spent the money on a variety of things, from the gym facilities to the student union to research and development."

Here, "research and development' are often logically linked, as abbreviated by the term "R&D". Going strictly by the analysis below, we'd say "....to research to development", but this might not make sense logically.
I'm really old, but I'll never be too old to become more educated.
