I am kind of devastated today! I cannot believe that I scored a 360in GMAT today. I had taken two MGMAT practice tests and I had scored a 560 and 590 in both the tests. I had then gone through all my mistakes, and then solved all OG problems from MGMAT OG Archer and made flashcards for everything that I did wrong. I took the test today thinking I'll get at least a 600+(my goal is 650+) but I scored a devastating ugly 360.

I don't think my score is true reflection of my abilities, and I really don't know what could have gone wrong???

I am thinking of taking the test again next month, but at the same time, I am thinking if this will be too soon.

Few questions crosses my mind(apart from feeling darn stupid!):

-- GMAT pattern changing from January, I heard? (I may think of pushing the test to Feb) I haven't read a lot about the changes, but are they a lot to affect someone buying study material now?

-- Am I too optimistic in rescheduling the test in December after this score?

-- I have 4 more MGMAT CAT's to do. I haven't completed(barely started verbal) stuff yet. I haven't taken GMAT Power Prep test yet. How do I shape up my study plan?

-- Personal tutoring!!! Is there an inexpensive way to get personalized help!!

Please help guys!

Hey iwillsurvive101,

We have almost the same handle! How about that!

Well, the GMAT and I have a very love-hate relationship. I think all people have this crippling and agonizing anxiety when taking this exam. When you sat down at the computer at the test center, did your mind go blank? Did you forget your concepts? Did you rush through answers?

Or, did you just linger on questions, hoping to get every single detail correct? Stacey Koprince has a great article here about managing time. If you look at the front of the beatthegmat.com page, you will find it. It states how you should evaluate a question for time. Also, I read another article I liked. It basically stated that the timing plan can go like this:

For Math, when you reach:
"¢ Q 11, you should have 50 min. remaining
"¢ Q 21, you should have 30 min. remaining
"¢ Q 31, you should have 10 min. remaining
"¢ [For Math, remember 50-30-10.]
For Verbal, when you reach:
"¢ Q 11, you should have 55 min. remaining
"¢ Q 21, you should have 35 min. remaining
"¢ Q 31, you should have 15 min. remaining
"¢ [For Verbal, remember 55-35-15.]

When I was studying with MGMAT, they usually stated that you should try to solve a sentence correction question in about sixty seconds. Obviously, you will confront ones that are longer...but this works for the easier ones.

It sounds like you have the same problem as myself - anxiety. Whenever I take a practice test, I frequently have to calm down before I take it. I think you got nervous.

When you did your practice, did you time yourself? Definitely time yourself. I am still getting used to timing. Verbal is getting better, but that annoying Quant section is a toughie.

Good luck to you! I will be pulling for you in the months to come. Say a little prayer for me...I take this blasted thing at the end of the month!
