Please suggest on verbal

I took my GMAT but my verbal screwed up and landed up with 600 score.

In my practice GMATPREP tests my average score is 650 with highest 690. The reason I figured out is the toughness of question in real exam in comparison to OG10, OG12.

Please suggest.

Breakage is Q 50, V 20:::::::: 600

Deepak Ji, Take a prep from Knewton or something like that. You might be in need of a lot of improvement.

Hi bblast,

Have you taken any course. what all material you are refering for tough questions.

LSAT CR papers(google it)
RC-99(buy it).

This should be enough for a remarkable improvement Sir.

Or I've heard good things about Knewton. I am not taking anything BTW. Self guided study few hours day.

RC99 is not at all recommended, in my opinion.

Hey bblast,

do you find power score CR bible useful??
i have gone through it once and the strategies and step to deal with a problem are pretty comprehensive and long.i dont think people think stepwise when there is a time crunch.there are almost 9 types for problems and you cant afford to recall all the 9 strategies while dealing with such problems. at least i find it cumbersome.
what are other people's opinion??

Hey Sandeep, even I briskly went through the PS bible in attempt 1 and could hardly apply the concept comprehensively as I was short of time. But this time(my second attempt) I am actually able to apply what I read in PS. Trick is dont time the first 100 questions you do for CR. Understand the stimulus conclusion blah blah and only then select an answer after deploying the entire content.

I am already feeling better : If u dnt feel like reading entire book . Just go through these must chapters :
1>MBT
2>Causality
3> Strengthen, weaken, assumption and paradox.

These are the most frequent on the GMAT. And Ya the causality and negation thing is superb, I recently started applying it and it works wonders.

RC99 is not at all recommended, in my opinion.

hey, the problem with me is that I have exhausted both OG's(10,12) in attempt 1.
SO deepak u may want to stick with OG's.

However RC-99 is an upcoming thing and I have heard some good reviews about it on gmatclub.

It is happening because major focus was on SC and grammar. RC and CR are extremely important and conclusion, inference questions are killer. So focus on weak areas and be ready for the new battle.

here is another testimonial of the RC-99 from a beast scorer. Our very own RISHI RAJ from BTG also used it in his journey.

I agree RC-99 is not the best written book. It has some stupid mistakes and some ambiguous answers. But I believe the content of the passages is so ridiculous u are actually going to get similar topics in GMAT.

So even if u do 2 passages a day. Take 8 minutes per passage. You are actually improving your reading and progressing. Remember its hard to "progress" in RC easily cause its the inherent skill which is more imp.

I've reached passage 45 in around a month and I definitely see an improvement already. Mind u I also used MGMAT RC guide as well in this period which is the best thing in market for basic strategies.

Hi Everyone

I'm also a re taker. I, too scored a 50 on my quant but landed with a 15 on verbal.(Note i used to score a 32 in GMAT Prep tests)

My dilemma is how long will it take to absorb all the Powerscore tricks and Manhattan RC tricks?

I plan to re take my exam in August.Is 2 months enough for a drastic improvement?

I look forward to your responses.

Hi Lotus,

You might have also faced the issue of toughness of questions in real gmat.

Two months are enough if you get tough questions and able to solve them.

Verbal has 3 sections as you know: SC, Cr and RC. to tackle SC, its highly recommended by almost everyone to go through Manhattan GMAT SC book. its the best available book in the market. For CR and RC, you can practice them from OG 12 and Kaplan/Princeton. Also there are some online available stuffs by the names: 1000SC, 1000CR and 1000 RC (google it). you can also try to do this problems, if time permits. These are abit tougher, but will help you on your G day. All the best.
