Hundredth digit

by Gmat09_5ALL » Wed Sep 16, 2009 3:42 pm
What is the hundreds digit of the integer z?
(1) 10z = 93,120
(2) z rounded to the nearest hundred is 9,300.

The confusion here is for option (2) are we rounding off
1)9345 to 9300
2)9265 to 9300
3)9255 to 9300

for the hundredth digit.Please suggest.

Statement 1
10z=93120
z=9312
Hundreds digit is 3. Statement 1 is sufficient.

Statement 2
z is between 9251 and 9349.

For any value between 9251 and 9299, the hundreds digit is 2.
For any value between 9300-9349, the hundreds digit is 3.

Hence, this statement is insufficient. As evidenced in your original post, your confusion means that you cannot determine a unique answer.

So, statement 1 is sufficient, while statement 2 is not. Is the answer A?

I agree with ssy
"Native of" is used for a individual while "Native to" is used for a large group

Can you please recheck. IMO D.
Statement 2
z is between 9251 and 9349.
In the later case if we have to round off till hundred digit. We will only look at ten's digit.
