For-profit colleges serve far fewer students than either public or private non-profit colleges. At the same time, relative to non-profit colleges, for-profit colleges draw a disproportionate share of federal and state financial aid, such as tuition grants and guaranteed loans, for their students. It must be, then, that for-profit colleges enroll agreater proportion of financially disadvantaged students than do non-profit colleges.

The conclusion above depends on which of the following assumptions?

"¢Public non-profit colleges and private non-profit colleges enroll a similar proportion of financially disadvantagedstudents.

"¢For-profit colleges do not engage in fraudulent practices in helping their students obtain unneeded federal andstate financial aid.

"¢The number of students receiving federal and state financial aid at for-profit colleges is greater than the numberof students receiving federal and state financial aid at non-profit colleges.

"¢For-profit colleges are of similar educational quality as non-profit colleges.

"¢The majority of students at for-profit colleges do not default on repayment of their loans after they completecollege.
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement

For me answer is D

The reason they grant loans etc is not because to get the attention of the prospect students but just because to finance financially disadvantaged students...This is the hidden assumption!
The more you suffer before the test, the less you will do so in the test! :)

For-profit colleges serve far fewer students than either public or private non-profit colleges. It must be, then, that for-profit colleges enroll agreater proportion of financially disadvantaged students than do non-profit colleges.

The conclusion above depends on which of the following assumptions?

"¢Public non-profit colleges and private non-profit colleges enroll a similar proportion of financially disadvantaged students - Statement is against the conclusion, hence not an assumption.

"¢For-profit colleges do not engage in fraudulent practices in helping their students obtain unneeded federal and state financial aid. - Clearly by engaging in fraudulent practices, for profit colleges can have a disproportionate share of federal and state financial aid despite of lesser proportion of financially disadvantaged students than do non-profit colleges.

"¢The number of students receiving federal and state financial aid at for-profit colleges is greater than the number of students receiving federal and state financial aid at non-profit colleges.
If it is the case then even with lesser proportion of financially disadvantaged students for profit colleges can have a a disproportionate share of federal and state financial aid

"¢For-profit colleges are of similar educational quality as non-profit colleges.
- aid has no connection with quality of education.

"¢The majority of students at for-profit colleges do not default on repayment of their loans after they complete college.
- again aid has no connection with repayment
