How to ensure Q51?

by karmayogi » Sat Dec 06, 2008 10:46 am
I am good, if not excellent, at maths and consistently scoring between 49 and 50. There are certain topics such as probability, Permutation & Combination that I need to brush up. However, I was stunned to see a few questions from some remote topics such as statistics.

I want to know following things:
1. Which is the best book to cover all concepts/topics expected in GMAT?
2. Which book to follow to score 51 in Quants?
3. My target is finish OG for quants. Is it sufficient to score 51 in Quants?
4. I read on this forum that Quants section in Kaplan is too simple. So, I am planning not to use it for Quants. Thoughts?
5. (For India readers) I read on this forum that MGMAT is good for quants but I haven't seen it in any book store in Bangalore. Any idea from where I can get it?

All in all, I know I am good at maths and don't want to lose any point here just because of my negligence or some silly mistake.

Today I went through the complete Quants concepts given in OG11. Descriptive Statistics was the only thing I didn't know. Is there anything else required? or I just need to solve problems now?

Okay YOGI,

I am not sure whether people help you with HOW YOU CAN score 51 ;-) but, here is my 2 cents:

Take MGMAT tests and try to score 51. If you can not, just read the explanations and learn the types of questions you miss and you need long time to solve. After that jump to KAPLAN 800 and solve all of them. Download the tough OG questions and work practice them. And finally go to the gmatclub.com and work on the math challenges.

OR

Just score 50 for god's sake and study VERBAL ;-)

First of all, thanks for response.

I know there is no fixed formula to score 51 :). Definitely, I am not burning myself over quants. Verbal is something I am working on and, I know, I need to work on  . But at the same time, I don't want to ignore quants.

Everyone is recommending MGAMT. But the problem is I am not finding it here in Bangalore. Regarding Kaplan, I read somewhere on this forum that using Kaplan for quants is waste of time for people scoring above 49 regularly.

How about OG11?

Nope OG is definitely not enough to score 51.
