If x and y are positive integers, is x even?
(1) xy is even
(2) x + y is even
OA
C
Source: Magoosh
Let's take each statement one by one.
(1) xy is even.
For xy to be even, at least one between x and y must be even. So x can be odd or even. Insufficient.
(2) x + y is even.
For x + y to be even, either both x and y are even or both x and y are odd. Insufficient.
(1) and (2) together
The only condition is both x and y must be even. Sufficient.
The correct answer:
C
Hope this helps!
