Business prof. parent as a kind of legacy?

by shahmyshe » Sat Nov 29, 2008 4:33 pm
Dear Ms. Blackman,

I understand that "legacy" status is not relevant to admissions committees at business schools. That said, I wonder if my "legacy" status is an exception to that rule.

My father is a long tenured, somewhat prominent business professor at a state business school. He received an MBA and doctorate at one of the top 3 business schools and briefly taught there in the late seventies before accepting a position at his current employer.

Does his background make any difference for my application to the top 3 business school he graduated from? Does it make a difference at any other school (besides the state school he teaches at today)?

Thank You

Dear shahmyshe,

Your father's connection to a school as either an alumnus or a former professor will not give you preferential treatment. As with any legacy connection, it will simply ensure you get a thorough evaluation like most other applicants.

Lisa
