Part Time V. Full Time

by DJSoccer22 » Wed Feb 25, 2009 10:40 am
I am curious to know if the standards for admission to a B-school are the same for a full time student as a part time student. I have checked out a lot of profile evals on here but a lot of people do not say whether they are applying for the full or part time. I am looking to apply to Booth and Kellogg part time.

If someone could give me some insight on this I would appreciate it.

In general, PT programs have somewhat lower average GMAT scores and somewhat higher levels of experience.

Oppurtunities

by krishnadevaraya » Mon Jun 22, 2009 8:00 pm
Hi Linda
Is there any difference in the terms of oppurtunities between Part time and full time MBA programs?
How much GMAT score should one have (median) for part time programs of top 20 b schoools in US? As I see this figure for full time MBA is 690-720. How much experience is it usually for part time programs of top b schools?
Cheers,

Cheers,
Usually part-time programs are more geared to career enhancers and full-time programs are geared more to career changers. Some, albeit fewer part-time programs, have somewhat restrictive access to the career management services -- especially for sponsored students. However, this is a policy that you need to check school by school. Furthermore just because of timing, there are usually fewer career services/opportunities for part-timers than for full-time students. As usual, you need to check these options at each school.

Regarding the average GMAT, that really varies in the top 20 part-time programs and you should check it by school. In general it is lower than for full-time programs. Also, in general part-time programs have slightly more experienced students than the full-time programs, more in the 7-12 years of experience that 3-6 years of experience, but that isn't necessarily so. Businessweek.com has a lot of this data conveniently organized for part-time programs by school.

Best,
Linda
