To meet the rapidly rising market demand for fish and seafood, suppliers are growing fish twice as fast as their natural growth rate, cutting their feed allotment by nearly half and raising them on special diets.
A the same
B their natural growth rate, their feed allotment cut
C growing them naturally, cutting their feed allotment
D they grow naturally, cutting their feed allotment
E they grow naturally, with their feed allotment cut.

OA is D. But what's wrong with C :cry:

I think idiomatically correct sentence would be

X runs as fast as Y does
X eats as fast as Y does

Y can be noun/pronoun

hence D



oops typo I had to write D

IMO D. 'Growing them' makes sentence passive. Growing should follow cutting so 'D'

opening an old thread..pls bear it.
B and E are out as we need cutting for ||ism with growing ..., cutting ....and raising

On either side of ...X twice as fast as Y.., we need similar elements.

In original sentence we have:
are growing fish[VERB Construct] twice as fast as their natural growth rate[NO VERB] - Is this why its wrong ??

I have one more doubt,
Since D is correct option. THEY should refer to FISH. However, FISH is object in Clause - suppliers are growing fish. So, can a Subject pronoun refer to object in previous clause. I think ideally, Subject pronouns should refer back to subject of the previous clause i.e. suppliers.

Pls help me with this.
