ISB is one of the most selective schools in the world. Your score would put you in the bottom 10% of the accepted class. You would need something exceptional in your background to overcome that score. You will be competing against a highly technical group (56% engineers), most of which will have multiple certifications and strong work records. You will need outstanding recommendations and sparkling essays.

That doesn't mean it is impossible, simply that if you are determined to go to business school next year you would be wise to apply to several schools including one or more that are less selective.

Good luck,

Thanks Tani for your valuable insight ! I do agree with you that I have a very common profile & I do figure in Isb's last 20% of bunch (mid 80% 670-770), but given the fact that their intakes is pretty higher approx 600 and they are planning to increase the intake, moreover, my experience would be 8.5 by the time i go for it ,how do you rate my chances are ?

secondly, I am a software engineer ,working currently with Capgemini Ernst & Young (2.5yrs) & my previous 2 employers were PwC(3yrs)and TCS(2yrs), does this make a decent profile for them ?

Please let me know what does strong reco means: do you mean some hi-fi person like Partner, Director or VP of a company ? Please do let me know , I am quite confused ?

Many thanks in advance !

Middle 80% means 10% below and 10% above so your score will be a detractor. However, having solid companies such as CapGemini and PwC is always a help.

A strong recommendation has nothing to do with the title of the individual writing it. Strong refers to the depth and quality of what the person says about you. An extremely high profile individual who doesn't know you well and hasn't much to say will actually hurt your application. What you want is someone who can write intelligently about your ability and potential.

Their websites say Bangalore has a 695 average GMAT and Calcutta has a 730 average. Your score would be just in the range for Bangalore, but somewhat below Calcutta's range. Again, ranges just tell you what the other people who have been accepted look like, it doesn't say anything about your acceptance.

All of the top Indian schools are very competitive and have many more qualified applicants than they can accept. You chances will depend on many factors other than your score. You will need to show that you can bring something to the classroom that the other candidates cannot. Your essays and recommendations will make the difference.
