Because of less availability and greater demand for scientific research, platinum remains consistently expensive, like gold.

3.)Because of decreased availability and increased demand in scientific research, platinum remains expensive, like gold.

5.)Because of decreased availability and greater demand in scientific research, platinum remains at a consistently high price, like that of gold.

1, 2 and 4 - demand for

3 and 5 - demand in.

Demand in v/s Demand for.

I think both of them are correct and its usage has to be picked from context.

In this case, I would pick demand in as this correctly describes the usage of platinum in Scientific research.

Thus, IMO C.

Decread availability of platinum is correct [ 3/4/5]

5] Is out because decreased and greater are not parallel

Now as requested in the headline fight is btw 3 and 4. Both 'demand in' and 'demand for' are meaningful entities.

Let us re-write as: Platinum is used more extensivly in scientific research.

First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement
Second take: coming soon..

Look for easy reasons to eliminate answers.

In A, B and E, remains and consistently are redundant. Eliminate A, B and E.

In D, demand FOR scientific research incorrectly implies that there is a desire FOR scientific research. The intended meaning of the sentence is that there is a desire for PLATINUM. Eliminate D.

The correct answer is C.

To clarify:
A demand for X means that people want X.
A demand in X means that X is an area in which people want something.
X is in demand means that X is popular.
