You may not be aware that recently many MBA programs announced they would accept the GRE in lieu of the GMAT.

Indeed, there are now 110 MBA programs that now accept the GRE in place of the GMAT. ETS is spending a lot of money lobbying schools to accept the GRE ever since GMAC left ETS. It is probable that the GRE is going to continue in importance for MBA programs since ETS wants to get back that market.
