The ratio of the number of red cars in a certain parking lot to the number of black cars is
3 to 8. If there are 72 black cars in the lot, how many red cars are there in the lot?
A. 11
B. 15
C. 24
D. 27

Hi,

As per the Question RED: BLACK cars are in ratio 3:8

And also Total # Black cars are 72. So, 8*X = 72 ==> X = 9

So Total # Red cars must be 3*9 = 27
Hence OA D

Hi,

As per the Question RED: BLACK cars are in ratio 3:8

And also Total # Black cars are 72. So, 8*X = 72 ==> X = 9

So Total # Red cars must be 3*9 = 27
Hence OA D

Use equivalent ratios here
red/black: 3/8 = x/72
Cross multiply to get: 8x = (3)(72)
Divide both sides by 8 to get: x = (3)(9)
x = 27

Answer: D

Solution:

We can let x = the number of red cars and create the equation:

x/72 = 3/8

8x = 216

x = 27

Answer: D
