Hi All,
I took the GMAT on August 9 and obtained a score of 650 (V40 and Q39). I have about 2 years and 3 months of work experience in the Compliance and Secretarial field. I qualified as a Company Secretary in 2010 (became a member in 2012). I was the editor of my college magazine. I scored a first class in my 3-year B.Com programme (completed from the Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai). I am presently pursuing ICWA and I have one more group left to complete ICWA Final. I am not working at the moment.I plan to retake the GMAT on September 25 in the hope of improving my GMAT score. I am aware that a candidate's work experience is an important factor considered by the Admissions Committees of top end B-schools and am a little concerned about the fact that my work ex is on the lower side.I wish to pursue an MBA from a reasonably reputed college in the United States. I have been to 2 counsellors so far who have not recommended good colleges for me to apply to. I am a little confused and frustrated at this stage.I would like to know whether I can reasonably think of applying to any decent colleges since MBA programs abroad are a significant investment. I am open to applying to colleges in Singapore and France as well. Could someone please advise me in this regard?

Malavika,
Work experience is extremely important when applying to a B-school. MBA is a work-oriented degree rather than an academic one. I would advise you to join the workforce and focus your energies on getting relevant experience in terms of leadership and teamwork, grow yourself professionally and then think how an MBA applies to your career. This will turn out to be more important than your GMAT score.
Hope that helps.
