If you subtract Triangle PQR from Triangle LMN then the Triangle LMN is no more a Triangle but a weird irregular Hexagon name MLPQRN So you cannot subtract it from LMN.
As per solving you can either calculate the individual area of each and divide or can try the below method.
We know Area = (Base*Height)/2
So Area PQR/Area LMN = [PR*height of (PQR) ] / [LN * height of (LMN)]
= 4*4/12*12 = 1/9.
