Is it C?

As stated, "the number of variations in sign" is:
n(n +1) < 0

The only consecutive pairs that satisfy this condition are
-2 and 3
-4 and 5
5 and -6
That makes only three pairs, so i choose C.

In case I'm right, I just want to let you know that this is a Word Problem, and not necessarily a "Sequence" problem as you've titled it. If you're tracking your problem areas, this nuance will re-focus your attention.
