IMO E.

No other statement maintains the parallelism and the meaning correctly

I believe it is E.
"Would be x and would be Y " are parallel.

I am not sure about this. Pls correct me.

Here "would" is used coz the sentence indicates hope, or a desire.

must is redundant:


Justification of would [ given by ron on manhattan forum ]

if 'would' appears in a sentence whose principal action is in the past tense, it's almost always functioning as a past-tense form of 'will'.
for instance:
i know that she will succeed. -- present-tense principal action (i know)
translates into the past tense as...
i knew that she would succeed. -- past-tense principal action (i knew)

its surprising I voted B, think failed to recognise past form of subjunctives...can some body restate the rules please..
