by fiza gupta » Mon Nov 07, 2016 10:36 am
The financial crash of October 1987 demonstrated that the world's capital markets are integrated more closely than never before and events in one part of the global village may be transmitted to the rest of the village-almost instantaneously.

(A) integrated more closely than never before and
(B) closely integrated more than ever before so
(C) more closely integrated as never before while
(D) more closely integrated than ever before and that

Parallel construction: The financial crash demonstrated that x ... and that y

In D we have The financial crash of October 1987 demonstrated that the world's capital markets are more closely integrated than ever before and that events in one part of the global village may be transmitted to the rest of the village-almost instantaneously.

Hi Fiza,

More modifies the word it precedes. So below are the 2 meanings:

closely integrated more than ever before" - This means that the frequency of integration is greater than earlier. Their is no comparison between the degree of their close integration. So maybe their integration was earlier close or not close.

" more closely integrated than ever before" - Here more modifies closely integrated. This means that their is greater integration than the previous close integration.
