In your explanation, you have mentioned that only A and E give correct comparison

But can't we assume that option B is correct with respect to comparison.

B. since 1990 the growth of global economy has been more than that during 1,000 years....

don't you think "that" stands for growth of global economy. if so can we consider the comparison is correctly made as below.
