GMAT Prep - Interesting Question

by albertrahul » Mon Jun 30, 2008 2:20 am
In a certain deck of cards, each card has a positive integer written on it. In a multiplication game, a child draws a card and multiplies the integer on the card by the next larger integer. If each possible product is between 15 and 200, then the least and greatest integers on the cards would be:

(A) 3 and 15
(B) 3 and 20
(C) 4 and 13
(D) 4 and 14
(E) 5 and 14

Let's discuss!

answer is D. 4 and 14

solve for smallest integer;

3*4=12. but it's smaller than 15; 4*5=20 falls within range. so smallest integer is 4.

solve for largest integer

13*14=182; try 14*15= 195. so largest integer is 14. if you go for any number above 14 e.g 15 then multiple 15*16 will be out of range.

so answer is 4 and 14

You are absolutely right! That's the answer.
I made one silly mistake too, I didn't read that question asks what would be the greatest integer ON CARD. I answered 4 and 14.
