Hello,

Could someone explain me reasoning behind those two questions? Problem solving from O.G., questions 380 and 404.

Q 380 has already been discussed a couple of times on the forum. Please search for it.

The answer for Q 404 is (E)

(1) W=1.5 . Lets assume the area is 25 for the tiled area and 39 for the untiled one. Each side of tiled area would be 5 and the length of the side of the countertop would be 5+1.5+1.5=8. The area of the countertop would be 64 and the area of the untiled one would be 64-25=39. Satisfies the condition.

(2) W=3. Now lets assume the tiled area is 100(25*4) and the the untiled one is 156(39*4). Repeat the same procedure and you will see that the condition is satisfied.

(3) W=4.5. Tiled area = 225(25*9) and untiled area=351(39*9).Still the consition would be satisfied.
