I love love love love your story! It is inspiring because I have been working at it for about 4 weeks and fear that I have not really progressed but I am realizing that the time and energy I put in really has to increase.

Hi Ngufo,
You have made me your fan. It is a truly inspiring story. I think its your humility that draws people to you. You surely have it in you to get a 720 score.
I was curious to know the B school you selected for admission.
You are doing a great job helping others. Kudos !!!
Regards,
Nikhil

Hello,
I have found the Manhattan GMAT books (all 8) to be most helpful. Plus, they have a really good "Foundations of GMAT Math" to be great!
I have one of the Kaplan books. I thought the verbal section was not very helpful.

Your slogan NGUFO is genius. Right now my brain is fried from studying on and off too much. Your phrase is what is keeping me focused. The 6 month path you are taking is what I am on now and in the second month.
Congratulations and stay strong!

Hi Kevdog,
Put in the hardwork, and make sure you are doing it the smart way. When I was studying for GMAT I always felt like a fly in the bottle, trying so hard to get out of the wrong side. The key is to turn around and fly out of the opening. Sometimes trying hard is not enough, you have to be smart about how you study (make lots of flash cards), prioritize the right things, focus on the right areas. Figure out your weakness, figure out which of your weakness, most frequently occurs in the exam (and could cost you), and focus on the same.
I wish you all the best - I am sure you will persevere, and pull out a great score. Right focus, hardwork, and working smart - anything can be achieved!
All the best!

Hi NGUFO,
I can't thank you enough for writing this post. I'm glad I chanced upon it. I was really inspired by your story, I went on to score 740 in GMAT. As a token of gratitude, I've attributed to your post in my own. (https://www.beatthegmat.com/scored-740-i ... 58972.html).
I wish you all the very best in everything you do. Thank you once again.

People Never Fail ... They just Give Up
Hi Ekta!
I'm sure you've heard this many times- but I cannot just begin without saying a HUGE Congratulations for your amazing and inspiring fight!
If it were any other person who had taken the GMAT a couple of years ago, it would have been a blur. However, I am sure your journey is fresh in your mind because you have continued to touch so many lives even after your struggle was over!
From your posts, I can tell you have great faith and belief in God; I cannot say how many times God has watched over me too and I continue to have the same belief that you do.
It's strange that I am writing to you, because on a normal day I would read some posts about the GMAT and continue doing my thing. However, this post/thread has meant a lot to me and I actually went all the way to page 1 to read about you and your journey. I cannot be more thankful to God and again to you (Like you say, God sends help in various forms) for stumbling over this thread.
I am an International student still finishing my undergrad this Fall and I want to apply for my MBA straight away. I have never taken a GMAT practice test, let alone the GMAT itself so this is great inspiration and motivation to get me started and not stop until I succeed!
It's strange because my goal was Harvard Business School as well and I was determined to get in but because of various reasons, I have picked another school and have understood what God may have in store for me. Harvard will always be the dream that I will hold close to my heart because it gave me the courage to fight for more.
Since I am an International student, tuition is ridiculously expensive. Hence, if I get a 720+ on my GMAT, the school I am applying to is willing to give me a full scholarship for my MBA. If I don't get that, I may not be able to achieve my MBA due to lack of finances. Therefore, it is crucial for me to make that score!
I am not sure if you were an International Student but thanks for the "bringing your passport" tip. I'm not sure a lot of people could appreciate that but I sincerely do because knowing me, I would probably end up going to the testing center with my driver's lisence!
This was suppposed to be a 5 lines post but then again, I guess when you write from the heart- like you've always done in previous posts that I've seen of yours..you really can't stop.
Wish me luck for my preparation and for my 2 month journey since I will be taking my GMAT at the end of August. Do keep me in your prayers and keep doing the great things that you do!
I am certain that God will reward your for your efforts in helping other people. Keep that faith and it will take you heights
Thank you Ekta for being one of the very few people who can touch so many hearts and who is willing to give so selflessly.
Love,
Zainy

Hi Zainy,
Thank you so much for your heart felt email. For every email I get from folks, who tell me that my story, my blog, helped them do better at GMAT, I feel so much joy it is hard to explain. You see, when I was preparing for the GMAT every blog was either people who were like GOD getting great scores, or average people struggling and getting bad scores. It sounded like there was no middle ground for average people like me. All my life I've believed, that you do not have to be super sharp to do well, you have to be super determined, super smart in how you work (prioritizing the right things) and very very hard working. That gets you results like nothing else can. I still truly believe what I wrote in my blog, if a average person like me could get a 720 every other person out there, who is probably way way smarter than me, can crack this exam, no problem!!
Thank you zainy for taking the time to write the email, your determination, your belief in God, and your positive attitude will help you nail the exam! I have always believed that if you put in your 300% in everything you do, when the goal gets near, and you feel you may be loosing the ability to go the whole way, he just sweeps you into his arms and carries you across the line ..... but then you must put that extra 200%
Wish you all the best Zainy - I will definitely put in a prayer for you!
Take care,
-ngufo
