Hi I am a 24 yrs. old. I am looking to pursue a Masters Degree in either:
-M.S Finance
-M.S Quantitative Finance & Modeling
-M.S. Accounting

I am interested in pursuing my Masters Degree at either:
-Rutgers University
-Fordham University
-Pace University
-Baruch College

GMAT: 610

Education:
Undergrad in Business Management from a non-competitive school. My overall GPA was 2.3. This was mostly due to a close family issue that occurred during my undergrad years.

Post College Education:
Completed a certificate program in Credit Analysis (12 month program) - competitive-University. My Overall GPA 3.5.

Work Experience:
Worked for 2 years in Finance on the Commercial Credit side at a major Bank in the New York. (Department closed)

Would like to pursue a career in Credit Analysis within the Finance/ or Accounting Industry.

I am strongly considering a degree in either Accounting or Quantitative Finance to better position myself for a career in Credit Analysis.

Do I have what it takes to get into one of these programs?

Hello,

Your GPA will be a barrier, although you should have a chance to explain the circumstances on your application. Referencing your post-degree work will help. If you have time before you have to apply, you should consider taking more relevant courses.

You didn't mention your GMAT score breakdown, but if the verbal is below 50%ile you should focus on bringing that up. Even in a quantitative program, the school will want to know that you can understand and express yourself well in class.

Baruch and Pace are your best bets, given your stats. Fordham and Rutgers will be more of a stretch. You might want to look at part-time programs that would let you keep working. Those are often easier to get into because they draw primarily from a limited geography.

Good luck,
Tani Wolff

I think you should be fine with that GMAT score for Baruch, the only concern I would have would be your GPA, but regardless I would just apply and see what happens. I was accepted for the MS accounting program for their program for next semester with a 600gmat, but I think I am going to go somewhere else. Your year after college might help you get in as well. Good Luck!
