GMAT 1000 Sets

by mjoeb » Tue Apr 01, 2008 9:47 am
Hello Everyone,

As I am approaching the big GMAT exam day, I was wondering if anyone finds it useful to do extra problems from the 1000 sets?

I'm currently almost finished the OG 11 book and I still have some time left so I thought I'd do the 1000 sets. But does anyone know if it's even useful? Or do you guys think it isn't representative of the actual GMAT problems?

Thanks for your help!

They are sets of 1000 questions for various GMAT topics. They can be found in the BTG resources:

My personal advice, which may not reflect that of others, is to avoid the 1000 materials. The sources for these questions are completely unknown as they are just a compilation of materials gathered on the the internet. The quality of the material is questionable and the solutions are sometimes debatable. Furthermore, the OG contains real questions with real solutions, which means that coming off that prep material you should have a firm understanding of the "GMAT" questions, the quality, and the thought process. The 1000 sets are not written by the GMAC test writers and thus the questions, quality, and thought processes can be widely divergent. Studying these sets after the OG material is dangerous because it may make you start to think in all the wrong ways!

In the past, I have answered several questions from the 1000 sets in CR and SC forums. I got the answers correct, but answering them gave me a very strong, disturbing feeling in the pit of stomach - it was abundantly clear that the material does not reflect GMAT thinking and I became worried that those materials could really be detrimental to our members.
