Median of price of the car is 52,000. which could be the median of the other two.

35000,44000,x,y,57000.

a)38000
b)47000
c)48000
d)51,000
e)56,000

I dont have OA for this question. By looking at the answer choice except 56,000 all other values are less than median value 52000. Therefore I choose answer E. Whats your thought?

Is 35000,44000,x,y,57000 the set of price of cars ?
Which could be the median of the other two.
What are the 'OTHER TWO' here ? x,y ?

Can you please re-check and post the complete question ? Can you also cite the source of the question ?

35000,44000,x,y,57000. Let x be the median. The set is now - 35000, 44000, 52000, y, 57000

a)If y = 38000, the median of the set 35000, 38000, 44000, 52000, 57000 is 44000(But it is 52000). So option A cannot be the answer.
b)If y = 47000, the median of the set 35000, 44000, 47000, 52000, 57000 is 47000(But it is 52000). So option B cannot be the answer.
c)If y = 48000, the median of the set 35000, 44000, 48000, 52000, 57000 is 48000(But it is 52000). So option C cannot be the answer.
d)If y = 51000, the median of the set 35000, 44000, 51000, 52000, 57000 is 47000(But it is 52000). So option D cannot be the answer.
e)56,000 - Left over and the answer.

Can you cite the source of the question ? I, somehow, feel that the question is not properly framed.
