Let me try ...
So what the question says is that you have some cards which you arrange in a certain order . The value of the card is based on the position of the card in the arrangement / order in which you arrange.. For example you have 3 cards
Ist Position - C1 (value of this card is based on its position which 1 . So , the value is some function of x, f(x) - where x is the position of the card .. here you dont know what f(x) is but whatever it is you want to find f(1))
2nd position - C2(value of this card is based on its position which 2 . So , the value is some function of x, f(x) - where x is the position of the card .. here you dont know what f(x) is but whatever it is you want to find f(2))
Third position - C3 (same as above)
