So I'm one of those ex-pats whose career (in finance) developed in the US, but who goes back to Eastern Europe (not just country of origin, but travels around for vacations, from the Balkans to Siberia) often and wonders about the good that can be done through cross-border investments, with the accompanying exchange in expertise and cultural intelligence. Loving linguistics, I inevitably find myself picking up a weekly magazine in a new country (if I understand the language at least a bit) and reading the finance section to see what concerns the business community there. The ability to break into consulting or a transnational corporation to analyze potential FDI deals and getting them up-and-running is what drives me to get an MBA. Unfortunately, my profile doesn't warrant getting lower-level consulting or i-banking experience now: age + bachelor's from a small state college + experience only in investment management operations (derivatives valuation, middle office, etc.), though with quick advancement and acquisition of transferable tech skills.
Hence the desire for FDI work: the tech skills are there, but institutional investments are a little too virtual (unless you create completely new investment vehicles, it's all essentially the same thing--counting the value of bets). I would love to work on more tangible projects while utilizing my cross-cultural and language knowledge, the love of travel and oh, the love of Europe. Where should I seek employment for a couple of years before grad school to increase the chances of getting into this type of work? And which school? INSEAD and LSE are the first that come to mind, but which US schools are better-known for producing alumni who concentrate on FDI?
Thanks in advance!
