First time 660 (Q42, V39), second time 680 (Q43, V40), this time 750 (Q50, V41) :D

I am Korean. In Sep and Nov 2006, I took GMAT twice in Korea and got score 660 and 680. I was so depressed because I need a perfect score (≥700) to apply MBA from Korea.

In May 2007, I came to China for working reason and made many Chinese friends there. I was shocked by the fact that many of them scored 720 or even higher. Because of the language barrier, three months later I came to understand the reason: their ability in math is powerful , many people score 49-51 in math! Later, a friend told me to study the Chinese people’s GMAT Bible “JJ”. I was so confused but finally came to understand what is “JJ”.

Hundreds of Chinese take GMAT around the world every day. After the test, some people will write down the questions they met in the test as soon as possible and as much as possible to provide to others who will take the test soon. Yes! They are very united in TOEFL,GRE and GMAT! In China, it is call” You planted a tree for me to enjoy the cool, and I will plant another tree for the man behind me!”Chinese has EXPERIENCED GRE and GMAT for many years and they are now absolutely EXPERT in GRE and GMAT.

One of my close Chinese friends who got a score 780 last year told me a secret: In actual GMAT exam, there is a very large question POOL (about 40,000 -60,000 questions).each month about 1200 questions are regularly selected from the POOL, and then about 75 percent will be replaced next month. Then if there is one question in last month GMAT test, you still have a chance of 25% to face it this month and still about 6% next month.

The Most important is next!!

Since the GMAT question pool is the same all over the world each month, you get a chance about 6% to meet the same question I meet this month. OK, if 100 person each write down 10 questions he met in this month, then to each question (for example NO.966 of the monthly pool),the possibility it is included in the monthly “JJ” is :1- (1-10/1200) ^100≈56.88% !!!
Finally, he gave me the professional “JJ” from Jul 07-Dec 07 (AP)and Jan 08(C.Today, I meet 17 questions the same in the “JJ” above. Especially in my Math test, I meet 6 questions in the “JJ” (AP)and 6 in the “JJ” last month(C!! Of the 12 questions above, six is DS. Of course, I saved much time and passed the test easily.
I have asked a Chinese friend before why GMAC or ETS do not investigate Chinese? He surprised me: In Commonwealth of Nations, nobody dares to make “JJ” because the government or ETS is easy to survey and will cancel the maker’s MBA qualification. But in China, the government does not care much about that.
Now, I feel that although I benefited a lot from “JJ” i still feel so sorry...

In addition, very important: I have a specific statistics of GMAT scores (over 1,200 individual data analysis), but I can not affix it in this article or I am not good at computer??? If you are interested and write EMAIL to me, I will Email you. I have benefited much from here and I will do my best to help everybody!! :D
My email: DELETED

Btw, I wonder if the administrator can tell me how to upload a Excel statistics here?? :)
At last, let us draw together to beat the gmat !! :D :D :D

Is this for real

by gmat8000 » Sun Feb 03, 2008 9:24 pm
Dude, this is the most messed up thing I have ever heard. No wonder why a good quant score is getting more difficult to achieve. I hope they catch these cheaters and put a stop to this for good. By the way, whoever wrote this post - if you cheated I hope they catch you too. You may get into a decent school with your GMAT score, but cheaters never get far in life. And you have also proved how much of an idiot you are for posting something like this on the web.

Eric, this is sickening.

Using JJs to prepare for the GMAT is highly unethical--as you pointed out, it's cheating.

Beat The GMAT does not support any form of cheating. I am deactivating your account.

One additional follow up: I'd like to remind folks to NEVER post any live test questions or 'JJ' questions in this community. You will get banned and may get into a lot of trouble with GMAC.

People, it could be a case that the author of this post and the test taker is not the same person!

May be a boy was studing hard and improve his score significantly. His girl knows all his history. But now the boy decide to leave the girl. And this post is just a revenge.

What do you think? Possible?
Look, it is very strange that person provide all information about dates and results of his attempts! I guess no many Korean people take GMAT 3 times and got such results.

Sickening indeed!!, Is GMAC aware of this. If they are not can we atleast use this post to bring it to their attention that something like this is happening, I know this is a post on an online forum and wouldnt count exactly as evidence but atleast it might prompt them into investigating the matter. I just hope people who use such methods to ace the test are banned permanently, along with their test being considered as void. This is so unfair to people who actually work hard to score well on this test. Unfortunately GMAT is increasingly becoming important (No matter what the B Schools say) for your admission to a good B School and people who have a good score on it (cheating or otherwise) stand a better chance at getting into a good B School.

It's very unethical but definitely not sickening. There used to hordes of Chinese students who scored 800,800 on the GRE with very little ability to speak English. None of our professors knew how or why they were able to score so heavily. A lot of us undergrads suffered because our sessions with TA's were unbearable. Eventually, a GRE score from a Chinese candidate received no consideration unless the score was really low. These things have a way of working out :)

My advice to you: stop worrying about what other people are doing and worry about your exam. I saw a lot of questions on the quant that were highly similar to questions on the Official guides and as long as you know the concept you have nothing to worry about.

To all those who talk about cheating etc. Well, for one, the idea that there is a universal moral standard everyone abides by is just a pipe dream. You'll face a lot worse at work and Business school you can trust me on that.

I totally understand where that Korean test taker is coming from. Asia, in general, have far less graduate programs than US or EU. Obviously, to make it to the top 10 schools anywhere, you need to at least let them know you are academically capable. Don't be offended, but Asian are good at math and great at studying. This is why I don't think generalized tests such as GMAT or SAT should be a measure of how the person would perform in graduate programs, which "thinking outside of the box" attitude is more often applauded.

But whatever, this is what the grad schools choose to base some of their decision on, so be it. This by no means will determine how the candidate will do in interviews or on their essays (professional essay helpers could help with this problem). So I think 800 scorer will get caught through their interview, if you could tell that their english speaking ability is under par.

By the way, Michael Yu, the person mentioned in the lawsuit ariticle, is not a cheat or liar, he just got really good at taking tests and used his strategies to help Chinese students study for those test. it's just pure business. I taught for that test prep school for a summer while in China, not in their exam dept, but conversational English enhancement classes (watched Friends most of the time). It's a HUGE business in China, especially during the summer. My class had about 200 students and they had TV's in the classroom for the students in the back row, b/c they can't see me. Apparently watching how my mouth moves while pronouncing "good" is important.

But anyways, GMAT is not end of the world and scoring 800 doesn't mean you will get into HBS. end of the story.

i heard about the gmat cheating scam in china

my sister who went to hbs told me.. that two years ago.. hbs kicked out two chinese students. for gmat fraud.

these guys had perfect scores in the gmat and couldnt speak a word of english.. during case discussions.. in lectures during the first month.. it became obvious that.. etc etc.

in china.. it maybe ok to cheat on exams.. to get admitted..
but like karma

everything catches up to you one day..

It astounds me that GMAT (or even TOEFL) are used to measure one's ability to converse and speak English! They don't measure conversational abilities! The case of the two Chinese students sounds rather obnoxious, you'd think a school like Harvard would have more control processes in place to filter out the wheat from the chaff.

I did read somewhere that a few international MBA students who were interviewed over the phone and spoke good English couldn't speak a word when they arrived on campus. That raised red flags and eventually a few of them got expelled. What transpired was that these students hired consultants to attend the phone interviews.

Wangs,
Summer job in China teaching conversational English. Pick up any useful insight into CEIBS. Just curious.

yep... those two chinese students.. used the phone interview.. option.. and then.. someone else was talking on their behalf..

after they got caught at hbs.. i think hbs closed phone interview options..
now.

i mean.. this isnt community college.. this is hbs..

even ppl who are eloquent in english and have great work experience.. are put on the spot.. have to be quick, alert and clearly express their ideas in a succint way where.. ppl can understand what their talking about. and get thier point across.. ( these folks struggle too )

how do you expect to wing it.. when u score 800 on the gmat and u cant speak a word of english.. that makes no sense.. ur gonna get caught.. when its that obvious

So?

by gmat8000 » Thu Feb 07, 2008 5:10 pm
So what if they get caught? If there are people cheating in the first place then it defeats the entire purpose of a test. I'm just amazed at how people are gaming the system like this. I'm not sure why an individual who can't speak a word of English would even bother to pull a scam like that. It just shows how stupid some people can be.

I say let these jokers continue what they are doing until it becomes a major problem. Maybe then will the business schools and GMAC take action.
