You cannot assume they are Men...no way!
The fact is we know they are men, and also GMAT doesn't provide answers that would make you decide if the subject is man or woman.

For C to be correct, "them" as to be clear on the antecedent it is referring to. In this case, it could very well be articles or the people that wrote them.

"These men wrote the articles, because all of the men were advocates of the Constitution."

"These men wrote the articles, since all of them were advocates of the Constitution."

How can "since" be preferred over "because"?

(A) since each of them were -- each will take a singular verb and them has no clear-cut antecedent
(B) since they were each -- ambiguous pronoun, they can take both papers or the men
(C) since all of them were - ambiguous pronoun, them can take both papers or the men
(D) each of which was -- which cannot refer to people. I think if whom had been there instead of which this one might have been correct
(E) because all of the men were - correct

E

What is the OA?

E cannot be the answer all of the men gives the impression that there are more men other than the three mentioned above .

The Federalist papers is a compilation of articles written by Alexander Hamilton and James Madison, as well as a few by John Jay, since each of them were advocates of the Constitution.

(A) since each of them were
(B) since they were each
(C) since all of them were
(D) each of which was
(E) because all of the men were

IMO: C.
