increase of 10% ( 30 -> 40) is equivalent to increase of 25 marks. Hence, the total marks = 250.

40% of the total i.e. 2/5th = 100, is 15 more than the passing. Hence, passing marks = 85.

Max marks is 10x
Peter get 3x
Paul get 4x
so 3x +10 = 4x - 15
x = 25 so pass marks 75+10 or 100-15 = 85
so pass marks is 85

Let passing mark is P & total marks T.

P-10 = 0.3T
P+15 = 0.4T.

Solve for P. P=85.
