Books in European libraries last longer than books in libraries in the United States
because, although the climate in Europe is fairly humid, libraries there are not subjected
to the extremes of temperature and humidity that damage collections in the United States.

"such as" is used to quote examples. I don't find any relevance of the idiom here. In A, the same the same meaning is conveyed precisely.

I understood why A is correct and E is wrong. It's not because of "such that" etc.
The problem with E is the initial part.
"because the climate in Europe is fairly humid,"
If we use this in the original sentence, it becomes:
"Books in European libraries last longer than books in libraries in the United States because the climate in Europe is fairly humid,........"


This changes the meaning of initial sentence which is given to us. It's not the humid climate due to which books last longer in Europe. :D

Thank you, Ritesh, for figuring out the difference between the options choices A and E. I was shuttling between the same options until you explicitly stated the difference in meaning between those two. :-)
