substitute x for y is the idiom so we are left with B and D.

B is correct as it uses the verb form "emphasizes" which is parallel to verb "prefer"

First B and D are out because incorect idiom prefer for should be prefer X to Y
E is too unclear
A is wrong - emphasizes how
C is the only one correct answer- it uses both idioms corectly[/i]

note that "prefer to" is in the non underlined portion, so this idiom is not tested.

the sentence is of the form: like As who prefer to substitute X to Y, B does...

substitute X to Y is wrong. C doesnt correct this.
we should have substitute x for y.
