Like other educators who prefer to substitute anthologies of short stories or collections of popular essays to dull "basal readers," Ms. Burton emphasizes how important it is to enjoy good literature.
(A) to dull "basal readers," Ms. Burton emphasizes how important it is to enjoy
(B) for dull "basal readers," Ms. Burton emphasizes the importance of enjoying
(C) to dull "basal readers," Ms. Burton emphasizes that it is important to enjoy
(D) for dull "basal readers," Ms. Burton's emphasis is that it is important to enjoy
(E) to dull "basal readers," Ms. Burton's emphasis is on the importance of enjoying

substitute x for y is the idiom so we are left with B and D.

B is correct as it uses the verb form "emphasizes" which is parallel to verb "prefer"

First B and D are out because incorect idiom prefer for should be prefer X to Y
E is too unclear
A is wrong - emphasizes how
C is the only one correct answer- it uses both idioms corectly[/i]

note that "prefer to" is in the non underlined portion, so this idiom is not tested.

the sentence is of the form: like As who prefer to substitute X to Y, B does...

substitute X to Y is wrong. C doesnt correct this.
we should have substitute x for y.
